PAPER BOAT

Representing a humble gesture of awareness, Paper Boat is a wish and a prayer. It invites the child inside us to come out and play, dream, be curious, cast wishes to a generous universe, float them on the sea feely and trust that they will be fulfilled. This boat-shaped installation takes its inspiration from the many cultures around the world that make offerings on the water as a sacred ritual. At night, when it is illuminated, Paper Boat will recall the smaller paper boats lit with candles in places like India and Brazil.

With this simple and powerful work of art, Pons hopes to begin a dialogue about Miami’s waterfront and inspire others to use this precious resource to enhance our city in a more cohesive way. Paper Boat will be an object of juxtaposition with its surroundings. It will invite those who pass by to meditate about the vision we want for Miami and it will offer a retreat.
