MERIDIAN LOFT

2007
Miami Beach, FL

Twisting the concepts of art and design and encouraging laughter and dynamic play with both, this residence is a lighthearted criticism of excess designed with a mix of interactive art pieces and vintage furnishings. An installation of red shelves displaying rounded wooden elements used in Brazil as cooking tools makes a statement in the entry gallery. The dining room is surrounded by metal ball-chain cascades that allow light bulbs to be placed anywhere within the volume. The living room has a clay-red paint to humanize the gray of the apartment’s polished concrete ceiling and floor. Questioning the reverence attached to money, hundred dollar bills are found in an installation of toilet paper dispensers and along a custom designed hallway rug.
